I want you to take back control of your life.
Hi there
Firstly lets get this straight…. Like you, I am a normal person.
I was a normal drinker or so I thought. I drank for any occasion (like most of my friends) but didn’t really have an off switch. I started drinking in my late teens and to be honest, didn’t really like the taste. I remember forcing myself to drink awful sugary drinks that made me feel pretty unwell and I thought puking was a part of a night out! Little did I know then that it was my body’s way of trying to save me from being poisoned…
I always drank socially to fit in and found that alcohol didn’t really become an issue for me until after I married and had kids in my 30s. Parenthood felt lonely as a working mum caring for 2 children apparently single handed whilst the husband carried on with his work and social life. Wine became my best friend. I joined the mummy wine culture and fear of missing out (FOMO) prevented me from missing out on any work or girls’ nights out. The problem is there were too many blank memories of those nights out! Hitting 50 and dealing with peri-menopause symptoms I knew something had to change. I played with intermittent months on/off drinking until I realized just how I felt amazing without it. Who knew that removing alcohol improves sleep, stress, weight, skin, relationships, ability to focus and be more productive at work and home?
I am now an accredited sober coach with personal experience of sobriety since 2020. As an NHS Wellbeing Champion at an acute hospital trust in London, I am also trained as an alcohol champion linking in with the trust drug and alcohol team to raise awareness and flag patients at risk. Working throughout the stressful pandemic time I focussed on my own health and well-being journey and improved my own work/life balance by creating healthier boundaries and developing self-care practices of things like mindfulness, meditation & yoga. I now see the emotional and physical benefits of becoming creative with out-of-work activities & improved nutrition.
I am definitely now a more focused and productive employee with improved time and energy for my colleagues and patients. Creating healthier boundaries means I can better manage overwhelm from my never-ending to-do lists. I never realised just how much alcohol was holding me back and how much more freedom and resilience I have now.
LIFE IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!
I am keen to share and promote well-being to all my healthcare colleagues and help you reach your full potential.
Sound good?
